The deaths of bicyclists

As I've mentioned I've been using a Google program to help me locate stories of interest to bicyclists.

There are many of them all around the world.

However there is one type of story that outnumbers all the rest combined, and it is absolutely depressing.

The deaths of bicyclists.

Bicyclists are being killed ( and also, "luckily" just injured ) in traffic accidents in alarming numbers, not just in the USA, but all over the world.

Newspapers cover these stories, and sometimes do follow-ups for one reason or another.

The overwhelming number of such accidents are the car drivers fault, but some can be blamed on faulty riding practices by bicyclists.

I have debated  whether I want to cover such stories here, in any great numbers, even starting an archive category, but have leaned toward not doing so because I want to accentuate the positive side of cycling.

Be careful out there, bicycling, people!

Yeah, I also use Googles News Alert to get bicycle related news. It struck me too that more than 50% of the news items covered accidents and deaths of bikers.

However i guess if you are interested in planes, trains and automobiles and get alerts about them, I'm sure that many of the alerts would be about people that got killed or injured in those too.

Gossip, sex and violence in no particular order seems to be the bread and butter of the news/media industry.

Take care and keep on blogging
