Here, have a card
Andrea, over at Velorution, has come up with an amusing, though risky, way to get even with those car drivers that do things accidentally, or deliberately, to make sharing the road with them a risk for even the best cyclist:
Give the miscreant a card with a humorous picture, and message, and then go about your business.
The discussion in the comments, over there, seems to be split on whether the card idea is insulting or humorous.
My thoughts?
Not sure handing out such cards is a wise idea, especially here in Southern California, the Unofficial Road Rage Capital of the Good Ol' U.S. of A.. :-D
On occasion, cut off by a driver, or rudely yelled at in passing by some ignorant driver of a gas guzzler, I cheerfully smile, and "wave" right back [ if ya get my drift ;-D ], and sometimes take the risk of trying to tell someone I encounter they are wrong, and why, if the chance presents itself.
Some folks might not see the humor, or respect your restraint in giving them a card, instead of calling them an asshole, and shoot your behind, or bust yer face. :-D
I prefer to try talk to the offending miscreant, all friendly like, and let them continue to make an ass of themselves if they choose.
The other day I was nearly killed by a huge truck driving too close to the curb, as it came up behind me after I made a right turn.
My left elbow was bumped, and I started wobbling...
Luckily the speed of the truck took it well past me before I hit the pavement.
Don't worry... my trusty steed was just fine thank you! :-D
As for me... No broken bones. Just a bruised hip, and a very bruised elbow that is a colorful shade of black, and purple.
While I was pissed, I'd like to think I'd have been civil to the person if they'd stopped to help, and tried to explain why they clipped me ( quite by accident I'm sure ).
One commenter makes a good point:
Maybe some people wouldn't respond well to a rude note but a witty one explaining the issues might grab their attention.
I think the next time I get into situation with a vehicle, if the chance presents itself to talk, I'll give them my Blog Card, just as I pass out cards to my fellow cyclists.

I am all for sharing the road with bikes. But what about the occasional rider who rides side by side on narrow shoulders, or the one who does not use signals to turn right in front of you. It is scarry for motorist who have material and mental loss pending these types of encounters.
PS, I have never been rude to a bycyclist but wanted to on these occasions.

I have toyed with the "card" idea
but I would need a holster loaded with a variety of cards to meet the situation
I have wanted to make a card listing who I am...
father
friend
husband
dog owner
son
brother
uncle
etc...
then on the back some cycling and car laws
but until I print this up...
I will just have to fall back on the trusty middle finger
