Cyclefit Houston
An edumicated cyclist is a safer, happier, cyclist.
Cycling Clubs, bike shops, and other ways of training have done much to bring new cyclists into the pasttime, and teach those who ride already how to do so better, and safer, but a man in Houston thought he could do the same in a classroom setting.
Meet Herb Feins:
Feins figured he could package his 20 years of riding and racing experience into a comprehensive cycling 101. The result was Cyclefit Houston.
"The idea was to give cyclists who aspire to do tours or are looking for a way to learn how to correctly participate in road cycling an avenue to obtain the information and skills they need to be successful," said Feins, who has teamed up with a group of experienced cycling coaches to create this program. "We discovered that there was a lack of access to a program in which cyclists could get on their bikes and have instructors show them what they needed to do in order to do it right."
The program lasts 6 weeks and offers road cyclists instruction that is a combination of the classroom and time on a bike.
Subjects covered include bike fit riding in traffic, and the best ways to fuel up for long rides, among others.
I like that they emphasize Rider safety as this is one of the most important things needed not just to make current cyclists better, but to encourage newbies to ride in sitations they aren't sure of.
The cost is $150, and anyone in Texas interested participating, or anyone interesting in seeing how a program like this is being done can learn more at the Cyclefit Website.
