Updated Ecosystem Ranking System Revealed
N.Z. Bear has released the newest edition of the Ecosystem.
In a detailed explanation it is explained that, essentially, he eliminates, or reduces, the impact of formal blog networks, excessive cross-linking between particular blogs, and excessive linking.
The whole post, and the FAQ Page are must reads for anyone interested in participating in the Ecosystem.
So where does that leave The Cycling Dude?
I have a Link Score of 10, with a 10 Link Count.
I am a Crunchy Crustacean and ranked #12,774 out of 45,040 Blogs according to Link Score.
I am currently averaging 121 visitors a day.
In the EcoTraffic Rankings that puts me around #2,616 out of 5,000 Blogs.

This is pure speculation on my part, but TLB's new algorithm seems to penalize blogs that address niche topics (such as yours) because these niche blogs seem to be influential but only in a small sphere of influence. You tend to link to other bicycling blogs, and many of your incoming links are from other bicyclig blogs.
This is the opposite of how Google and Yahoo appear to currently operate -- they will increase the "rank" of your website if it seems influential within a small sphere of infuence. They like it when links are to and from topically-related websites.

An interesting, and valid, point.
My hope has always been that, as I find cycling stories in the mainstream bloggerverse to link to, some of those folks will link to my stories, and even add me to their blogroll.
Contributing to appropriate Carnivals helps in getting people to visit, but is just one approach.
It will be interesting to see how far this will make Dude rise in the system, but I have no illusions.
The Cycling Dude is NOT in the same world as my other Blog, Sneakeasy's Joint.
The contrast IS striking, and can be seen in the differences in stats, and rankings.
