Dogs think Bikes are Cars with only TWO Wheels
Just a story to remind you that Dogs, leashed, or not, are as attracted to vehicles on TWO wheels, as they are to the Vroom, Vroomers. ;-D
For 1 thing... we ARE slower. ;-D

Guns do not kill Cyclists, People firing them just try to
Australian bicyclist, Miss Boffin, of Roadkill on Two Wheels, claims to be "cynical, sometimes hypocritical, and doing my best to die on a bicycle."
Somehow, goal to the contrary, I don't think she wants to be in the position of the cyclist in THIS story:
OK, this one really takes the bloody cake.
Imagine this: it's a beautiful day outside, the sun is shining and you decide to enjoy the morning by taking your bike out for a spin on one of the excellent bike tracks in this city. You're riding along not a care in the world and soaking up the sun and feeling the wind rush over your body. A couple of hours later you're lying in the emergency theatre having a .22 calibre bullet removed from your collapsed lung because some lunatic thought your life was worth squat. That's exactly what happened in Melbourne today, on the Merri Creek trail just near Fitzroy. A female cyclist was shot in the chest at around 9:30am while she was out riding her bike, minding her own damn business.
"Accident" my ASS!

Viva La French Cycling Dude!
Someone used the Googe Translation Tool to read The Cycling Dude in French today! ;-D
Check out part of my Cycling News Network Archive, as seen in French, beginning with this story ( There is a link at the top of the page that, when clicked, will show the English original ):
La liberté de discours sur l'Internet affecte BikeBloggers aussi
LA LIBERTÉ EN LIGNE DE LOI de la PAROLE EST EN HAUSSE POUR Une VOIX, et je crois fortement que le support d'elle est très important pour le futur des médias de blogosphere et d'alternative généralement. Le microphone Krempasky de RedStates Blog et Kos, de Kos quotidien, tous les deux ont plus sur ceci.
Pour s'il vous plaît est arrivé Plus. ;-D

Is Blowing Snot Bubbles While Cycling Off putting to others?
THIS is the level of intellectual debate going on in the head of The Squeaky Cylist these days. ;-D
I suggested he do a Survey on his next ride.
Try breaking the answers down by Cyclist, Pedestrian, and Motorist, even. ;-D

Nathan in Minnesota Declares it is Officially Spring
He must have seen his Bikes Shadow, or something. ;-D
In his part of the country they rig their bikes for riding in the snow, and cold, during Winter.
Now Nathan is taking the Winter accoutriments off, and getting ready for Spring. ;-D

Bicycling Barber
"A professor who is one exam short of a course", Lonnie B. Hodge, of the Blog OneManBandwidth: An American Professor in China tells of a wonderful story in China:
Jing Qui is the bicycling barber of Beijing. He is 91 and has been cutting hair for 77 years. He pedals a bike to his clients, most of them elderly friends, a few of of whom can’t get out of bed.
He has had a storybook life in China old and new: He barbered for Qing Dynasty officials, warlords in Gansu Province, Japanese diplomats, and a famous Kuomintang general. He has known a certain kind of fame and notoriety.
And, though much differently, so it is these days: In his community he is known as an “everyday saint”, a mobile memory chest, and a keeper of community among elderly Chinese. This at a time when China, like other countries, is giving way to all that is younger, faster, higher, and more efficient for economic success.
“Steady work is what I believe in; if you are working and thinking, you don’t get stuck.”
Read more: The Bicycling Barber of Beijing - Recycled.
One more thing: Blogging in China, for ordinary Chinese, is a dangerous enterprise. Americans, who live in China, and also Blog, Like Lonnie, are not immune to concern about this issue either.

3 Interesting Articles on Cycling in Britain
Courtesy of Robert Hanks who writes The Cycling Column for The Independent:
2/28: About Fixed-Gear Bicycles.
The grit and slush of winter are thoroughly ingrained on my rear derailleur. Every gear-change sends a grinding tremor through the levers.
One solution would be to clean it all up. A more radical option would be to get rid of derailleurs altogether. Either you adopt a technological fix - those crazy Rohloff 14-speed hub gears - or you give up on gears altogether.
This is the solution favoured by Will Meister, who runs hubjub.co.uk. A few years ago, Will fell in love with riding fixed gear. He set up a website, 63xc.com, for fellow fixed off-road enthusiasts, and hubjub followed.

3/7: On Abusive Drivers.
In this country, unlike most of Europe, there are still motorists who regard cyclists as intruders on the roads. But the only way to change that is just to keep on riding. Sooner or later, they'll get used to us.

3/14: A recent interview with Emily Thornberry, the Chair of the APPCG ( All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group).

2 Cops on Bicycles went to a Peace Rally
No joke! ;-D
On Saturday afternoon, in my capacity as writer of my OTHER Blog, I attended a local so called Peace Rally in my community to writer about what I witnessed, and what I heard.
There were 500 people in the park but only 2 Police Officers on Bicycles.
Yes, the Cops also had a small presence, as the crowd marched 7 blocks to the center of town, but you would have been hard pressed to notice them.
The 2 Officers were amused when I called myself a Subversive for being the only Conservative in sight. ;-D
