Cyclicious on Risk and Cycling
Cyclicious points out that I am not the only one writing about Cycling , and Safety ( Pictures included in both. ).
Fritz, myself, Cycle Dog, Velorution, and others, exist to promote cycling as a safe activity, and form of transportation.
What we do is not dangerous. ( Jonathan Maus, of Bike Portland, spent the summer of 2005 rallying the faithful about cycling safety in his city, in a worthy effort to get the attention of the powers that be, and the general public that there are cyclists in their midst. Check out over 240 comments, so far, to this post. )
The actions of those doing it, and those we encounter while doing it, sometimes make it dangerous, but that does not condemn cycling, and cyclists, as a whole.
The more cyclists who become educated about riding safely, and the more motorists, pedestrians, and those we share multi-use trails with, are also educated about how to handle being around us, the better off all will be on the streets, and trails.
All of those links in my sidebar are there for you to explore, and learn from, so use them for Christ Sake! ;-D
I wish more people knew of the little darlings, and plan to spend the coming year promoting them more in order to steer visitors to them. ;-D
As Blogger Warren writes in a Comment:
How many stories, or articles, about Bike Commuting start with "Hundreds of thousands of Bike Commuters made it to their destination without incident today?"
Too many people wrongly believe that riding a bicycle in traffic is extremely dangerous, and that pisses me off big time.
I like a good Multi-Use Trail as much as the next cyclist as my recent picture filled report on the Mts. to Sea Trail will attest, and will use a Bike Lane if I have to, but give me the street, unencumbered by such a lane any day, and I am more than able to handle myself safely.
Check out what Fritz has to say, and the articles he links to in this post:

I've spent my entire adult life in the broadcast media and I'm getting sicker and sicker of it. Of course, we can move on about the dangers of cycling because there is a new threat facing humanity ... SEA MAMMALS!!!
