Bicycling Doctor: Stop Calling Me an UnAmerican, Faggot, Rebel

A Damn Cyclist ( Yes, that's the name of his Blog, hee, hee! ) has produced a great essay that many cyclists, regardless of political persuasion, will heartily agree with. ;-D

I'm listening to talk radio yesterday and I hear something that drives me nuts every time. I'm sure you've all heard the argument - having our cars is what makes us American. It's a popular right-wing notion, so much so that even in the middle of a war who's most obvious benefit will be protecting our access to middle-eastern oil, people still say it without irony. And, those of us that choose not to utilize cars, be it for their gas-guzzling, or greenhouse-gas-belching, because they're too expensive or just because riding in cars is boring and anti-social; we're routinely classified as unAmerican, rebellious, or simply faggots.

Nobody calls ME those names when they yell out their car windows! ;-D

What do I have to do, become a Democrat again, move to San Francisco, and read Daily Kos while Air America plays on the radio? ;-D

I'm with Fritz, of Cyclicious, who wrote in a comment that he thinks it's great that Cyclists are a varied lot, politically, and it's annoying that people try to lump us all together under the same category.

Anyway, the Good "Doctor" will be added to my Blogroll forthwith. ;-D
