Bummed Bicyclist Back to Biking

It's been an interesting week.

I discovered that my weight has ballooned from 185 to 196 in the 2 months since my eye surgery, and have vowed to eat more sensibly, and work out. ;-D

The reason I've been away has to do with finding a writing website that caught my attention as a way to help me with my creative, and other writing, and also because, for more than a month now i have not been aboe to figure out why Google Alerts has suddenly stopped working for me.

I like the Alerts because they give me ideas for stories to share, and opinionate on, that I, and you the reader, might never hear about.

Also I've been off my bike, except for the work commutes, for far too long, and have been planning to get back in action, with my new camera in tow in the next 2 weeks.

I even have started to take my camera on my commutes, and may share anything I see, at any time, so be prepared!

One thing I plan on doing this year is returning to all the rides I've written about here, to add pictures of the scenery. ;-D

I have also been wondering what to do for the next edition of the Tour de Bicycling since I've not received any submission for it yet.

In about 20 minutes I'll be heading off for a bike ride that i just decided to do on a whim.

I have a route, but no idea what I'll see there, or how long, other than it might be about 15 miles.

Sometimes what's needed to get one going is not a planned ride. ;-D

Preoccupation over with

This has been a week of pre-occupation for me.

Being extremely interested in the issue of Illegal Immigration ( I live in SoCal, so why wouldn't I be, hee hee ) I have spent most of my free time reading newspapers, and blogs, as things heated up, and posting my thoughts on my other blog.

I'm back now, though, and have a few things planned in coming days, including something really fun, and special, now that I'm slowly learning to play with my Digital Camera. ;-D

2 Cops on Bicycles went to a Peace Rally

No joke! ;-D

On Saturday afternoon, in my capacity as writer of my OTHER Blog, I attended a local so called Peace Rally in my community to writer about what I witnessed, and what I heard.

There were 500 people in the park but only 2 Police Officers on Bicycles.

Yes, the Cops also had a small presence, as the crowd marched 7 blocks to the center of town, but you would have been hard pressed to notice them.

The 2 Officers were amused when I called myself a Subversive for being the only Conservative in sight. ;-D

Eye am back from Cataract Surgery

It has been a week since Cataract Surgery on my Left Eye, and my vision is making progress.

You will have noticed that posting has been kept up on a daily basis.

Up thru yesterday most of those posts were set up before my surgery so as not to stress my eye for the 1st week.

So what's the story of my Surgery, and it's aftermath?

It was a very interesting experience. ;-D

EYE will not be Bicycling until March 5th

As reported last month, on my other Blog, I will be getting Cataract Surgery on my Left Eye.

The Big Day is Thursday.

I will be off the job for a month, but the 1st 3 weeks I will get 75% of my regular pay thru work, and State Disability, and the 4th week will be full vacation pay from work as I take my scheduled vacation.

Normally a person wears a patch for a few days, then their vision is sort of blurry for a week.

Most folks can go right back to work, but since I sit in front of a computer screen for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, I wasn't willing to put my newly worked on eye thru that so soon.

I see the Doc for Post-Op the day after, and March 2nd, and since there is still an infinitesimal chance of a problem cropping up I'm staying out a bit longer.

So how will that affect Blogging?

In the 1st week maybe a lot so I'm preparing posts in advance that will be scheduled to appear on certain days.

Hopefully I'll be back at full visual strength by my Birthday on March 5th.

I want to do some bike riding during my last 2 weeks out as well.

Happy 3rd Birthday you Mensch and Resource

MENSCH = (Yiddish ) A Man of Integrity of Honor.

RESOURCE = A source of supply, and support. A phenomenon that enhancess the quality of human life. A source of information, or expertise.Something to which one has recours in difficulty. A means of spending one's leisure time.

A lot has been going on in my life over the last 2 months, and so I never got around to a proper celebration of the 3rd Anniversary of The Cycling Dude.

Even I didn't think I would have come so far when I began pedaling down the BikeBlog Trail in Janaury 2003.

The World of BikeBlogging has grown, and expanded, alongside me over the years as well.

To sit here and pick, and choose, my favorite post, or series of posts, would be an impossible task.

I love them all equally.

Some more equally than others, but I love them just the same. ;-D

Now my eyes are tearing up, and the one thing you don't want to be doing when riding your bike is cry.

Through my tears I can see where I have been, in my rearview mirror, and I can see the trail around me.

It is the road ahead, though, even with clear eyes, and a new pair of prescription glasses, that is a bit foggy this morning.

I am not the most knowldgeable Cyclist on the planet, or the one with the most contacts, and time, but I may be one of the most enthusiastic of Ambassadors for the activity we all love so much, and you, the reader, and even my fellow BikeBloggers, have validated this by your linkage, comments, and e-mailed tips, comments, questions, and thanks for my unmatched collection of links.

One of the greatest tributes to me, and this Blog, has been the birth of new BikeBlogs inspired by my work here.

You know who you are, and I thank you, and wish you continued good luck, and happy cycling!

Another tribute to me is that even Magazine Writers remember previous coverage and, finding my Blog interesting, and worthwhile, keep up with it, and let me know of new cycling pieces of theirs, and Book Authors have consulted me for my thoughts on subjects they are writing about related to Bicycling.

That LAST experience has blown my mind this past year.

I wish to end by sharing an e-mail I received, this morning, from Cole Coonce, in response to my recent coverage:

Way cool!

Wotta mensch!

PS: Regardless of my stuff, your blog is a crucial resource and a always a fun and informative read...

Keep up the good work Kiril....

C'ya on the asphalt,

Cole Coonce

Reading those words, this morning, was my 3rd Anniversay Celebration.

Those simple words, and their definitions, encapsulate what I, and my Blog, are all about, and mean to so many who have expressed similar sentiments over the years.

Thank you Cole!

Thank you EVERYONE!

From my back wheel, to my handlebars, and from the bottom of my heart!
