New Website promotes unusual bike alongside places to ride

Of all the types of Bicycles on the market one of the cheapest, and most unusual, is the Folding Bike.

Frankly, it's not my cup of tea, but I see a few folks using them, especially for commuting, which I think they may best be suited for.

I sure can't imagine anyone riding one on a 20, or 40 mile bike ride. :-D

Larry Lagarde has a site that promotes one such bike, but it's his other content that, I think, will attract the most attention in the long run, and he's off to a good start.

I like his pitch to the car addled visitor to get on a bike. :-D

Need a break from the crazy pace of the 21st century? Try riding a Bike.

There's nothing like the joy, freedom and exhiliration that are bicycling. What a great satisfaction it is to bike... with your kids, your spouse, a friend or even by yourself.

Rather than pile into the car and drive away yet again, there's a sense of direct participation, strength and pride simply in the act of moving from one place to another by bicycle. Inhale the smells of freshly cut grass and backyard barbecues. Feel the cool morning breeze on your face.

Enjoy the uplifting sight of glorious orange-purple sunsets. Delight in the silence of locomotion at your own pace. Savor unexpected encounters with gentle deer, rabbits and other wildlife that are part of our suburban habitats.

Hmmm... maybe I shouldn't have posted that!

I may have just lost a few readers due to their getting their bike, and going for a nice long ride. :-D

He provides 7 reasons why a person would want to commute by bike.

In an e-mail he tells me one thing he wants to do with his site is "build a site about the world's great bike trails."

Well, he's gotten off to a magnificent start judging by the choices he's presented so far.

Vancouver Island, BC.

The Tammany Trace near New Orleans.

The Colorado Rockies, west of Denver.

New Orleans ( Airport to French Quarters ).

I hope he continues adding to his collection, and wish him the best with his site.

Ride this Bike.

Folding bikes cheap? Most of the ones I've seen cost a lot more than a similar bike of the same quality. A mid-level Bike Friday folder is going to set you back some bucks. I've met a number of people riding Bike Fridays in centurys and they were making good time and said they were quite comfortable.

I've tried them out and find them to be a fine bike, although a little twitchy due to the smaller wheels. There are a number of folders with full size wheels, although I haven't tried them. And their appeal IS primarily to multi-modal folks, where you are getting around partly by car, bus, train or airplane, although some people have told me they use them because they live in a small apartment and don't have a good parking option for a full-size bike.

Folding Bikes expensive?

Hmmm... Not being particularly interested in those types of bikes I'd assumed they couldn't be more than $500 at the most.
