Fullerton Bicycle Users Subcommittee looking for members

The deadline for submitting your application passed on February 16th, but here's the scoop as reported by Trevor Owens in the Fullerton College Newspaper called The Hornet:

Do you ride a bike to school? I know you’re out there- I see about a hundred bicycles in front of the tennis courts every morning when I walk past.

Now there is no need to be ashamed. If you want your voice to be heard, you could become a member of the Bicycle Users Subcommittee, an advisory group to the Fullerton City Council. If selected for this position you would have your finger on the pulse of the city. The group is a part of the Transportation and Circulation Commission.

As a part of this group, you would advise the City Council on anything they might possibly be planning that could affect you- the Fullerton City bicycle user. The Bicycle Users Subcommittee of the Transportation and Circulation Committee is also responsible for promoting bicycle usage in the city. This is the platform you have been waiting for. Its time to get the message out!

Now for the red tape. If you are still reading this, then you may want to give the position a shot. To qualify, one must live or work in the city of Fullerton. You would also have to work for the sheer joy of it, because the position is voluntary, and there is no financial renumeration to committee members.

Judging by the lack of responses posted online, to this article, nobody on Campus gives a hoot.

I hope that same indifference is not reflected in the number of applications turned in, not just by students, but by the community at large in the city as a whole.

For eight months straight, June 2005 through January 2006, the Fullerton Bicycle Users Subcommittee cancelled their meetings. The April 2006 meeting has been cancelled; I cannot tell if there were meetings in February or March. This is a discouraging trend.

That is sad.
