23 Miles of Paved Trails in Ventura County

Sometime this year I plan to finally head up to Ventura County for some bike riding, and there is a lot to be had.

Ventura County has 3 connected bike trails that go from from the coast East to Ojai.

The Omer Rans trail runs along the coastline, the Ventura River Trail runs through the heart of Ventura, connecting with the Ojai Valley Trail and running to the center of Ojai.

Portions of the trail wind along the Ventura riverbed and through woods filled with oak trees.

The Omer Rains Trail is an 8 mile level, paved urban trail along a wide promenade on the Pacific Coastline. The trail connects the San Buenaventura State Beach with the Emma Wood State Beach, taking you past sand dunes, the Ventura County Fairgrounds, Surfer's Point, shops and under the famous Ventura Pier.

The Ventura River Trail is a 6.3 mile asphalt bike and pedestrian trail that follows the Southern Pacific right of way through the City of Ventura from Main Street to Foster Park.

The Ojai Valley Trail is a Multi-use 9.5 mile rail trail along a former Southern Pacific Railway that paralleled Highway 33 from Foster Park, on the outskirts of Ventura, to Fox Street, Ojai. A post-and-rail wood fence separates the wood-chip bridle path for horseback riders from the paved bike and pedestrian portion of the trail.

Ventura Velo is a Friend of The Ojai Valley Trail.

When it comes to riding in Ventura County there are plenty of other opportunities, and resources:

The Ventura County Trasportation Commision has a nice Interactive map to find places to ride, and plan your journey.

Channel Islands Bicycle Club (CIBC).

Conejo Valley Cyclists (CVC).

Old Kranks Bicycle Club (Ventura Co.).

Ventura County Bicycle Coalition.

Agoura Cycles: Ventura/LA County Route Slips.

Riding Ventura County

When I went to the Reagan Library a couple of years ago, and on a hike last year, I was impressed with the number of cyclists I saw in the  Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks Areas, and with the cycling opportunities.

Enjoying the awesome view of the valley in all directions from the Library I said to myself, "Self! You need to find a way to get yer ass out here for a few rides someday!"

If anyone has suggestion for routes that I should explore and write about, send me an e-mail, and let me know.
